What is this setting for: com.ibm.team.repository.service.diagnostics.basic.internal.DNSResolutionDiagnostic ?

com.ibm.team.repository.service.diagnostics.basic.internal.DNSResolutionDiagnostic

This setting is per default set to "ibm.com".

What happens if "ibm.com" cannot be resolved, because the server is stricktly in an Intranet?

Is this only used in diagnostics or also for other actions?

Should we set it to an intranet DNS name?

You do not need to change anything there. The "Threshold for network address resolution" is more important. This pair of values are used in Server > Status > Diagnostics > Network address resolution, which evaluates the responsiveness of the DNS server. Whether or not the given host name (be it ibm.com or not) can be resolved, the DNS server should give a response in a timely manner. If you get below warning, you need to find out why the DNS takes too long to respond.
CRJAZ2549W Network address resolution for hostname ibm.com did not complete within 10 seconds. Hostname resolution should complete quickly, whether the hostname is valid or not. Check the network settings related to the Domain Name System.
Notice that "ibm.com" and "10" in the above warning are exactly the values defined in com.ibm.team.repository.service.diagnostics.basic.internal.DNSResolutionDiagnostic.
If you see no warnings, there is nothing to worry about.
